Adele makes musical comeback after six years

Many know singer and songwriter Adele for her heart wrenching ballads and her classic hits “Someone Like You” and “Hello.” Adele dominated the charts in the late 2000s and early 2010s, releasing three albums over the course of seven years. After the release of her last album “25” in 2015, Adele seemingly disappeared from the music industry.

In 2019, Adele and her then-husband, Simon Konecki, announced that they were separating. The couple who shares an 8-year-old son, Angelo, had asked for privacy regarding the split and their family in order to protect their son. Following this announcement, Adele took an Instagram break for around seven months, only to post in May 2020 that she was back and better than ever.

As Adele made her way back onto social media, many wondered if she would be releasing any music anytime soon. Fans no longer have to wait and wonder  as Adele has finally made her way back onto the charts after a six-year hiatus with her newest single “Easy On Me.” The single, which was released on October 15, is already number one on USA and Global top charts on Spotify and has racked up 11.3 million plays globally.

Adele hits the mark once again with a classic heartbreaker song that makes anyone want to cry and scream it at the top of their lungs. “Easy On Me” is ultimately about Adele’s divorce from Simon and her relationship with him. The music video opens with Adele seemingly sitting in a room and releasing the moment her marriage was over.

Adele’s song goes into depth about how she wasn’t happy in her marriage, how she settled down too young and how she changed herself to put her husband and son first. The song seems like an apology to her son Angelo, as Adele tries to justify why she left the marriage and did what she did.

The lyrics, “I was still a child, didn't get the chance to feel the world around me,” are Adele asking her son to go easy on her as she was young when she had him and got married, and made mistakes along the way because of that. Adele once again apologizes to her son in the song, singing, “I had good intentions and the highest hopes but I know right now it probably doesn't even show.” Adele is expressing how she had the best intentions when leaving the marriage as she had to pursue her own happiness, but had to dismantle her son’s happiness in the process. She is hoping that one day he can see things from her perspective and not hold her actions  against her.

The song gained popularity on TikTok with many children of divorced parents finding ways to relate to the song in their own life. Some even found themselves getting emotional to the song, despite being in healthy relationships or having a happy family. The song has certainly been playing on repeat for a lot of people and that is not going to stop anytime soon.

Whether you're going through a divorce or breakup, have a broken family or a happy one, Adele’s new song is guaranteed to tug at your heart strings and make you shed and tear or two. The gentle but passionate piano tunes playing the background mixed with Adele’s powerful voice bring the song altogether, making it one you’ll never be tired of listening to. The song is definitely a 10/10, and the perfect way for Adele to successfully reenter the music industry after six long years away.

Adele’s album “30” is set to be released in November, and with “Easy On Me” being as successful as it is, one can expect the rest of the album to follow suit.
