How to be an eco-friendly shopaholic

In an era dominated by online shopping hauls, name brands and overconsumption, how can you still scratch your inevitable retail itch without contributing to a much larger issue? The answer is simple, and waiting for you in hidden gems across the San Diego Area. Not only do second-hand stores offer one-of-a-kind pieces, but they also give clothes a second life.

Whether you're a seasoned thrifter, or trying to build your dream wardrobe from scratch, here are some shops to try!

Veteran’s Thrift Store

Glassware galore, Veteran’s Thrift offers rows and rows of pieces you can dig through for hours. If you walk a little further you’ll find a garage full of ellipticals, bikes, and skateboards to browse through. It’s a classic thrift full of decade-old trinkets to fill your shelves and the occasional diamond in the rough to go in your closet.

Day to Day Vintage

Day to Day Vintage features a well-curated selection of Y2k and street-style pieces. Though it’s on the pricier side, it's a quick hit where you'll find something you love. If you've been searching for an entire rack dedicated to Harley Davidson tee’s, look no further than Day to Day.

Death Trip Vintage

Death Trip Vintage is the denim depot of your dreams. Racks of every wash you could think of are paired with a wide array of retro hats making this underground shop the ultimate hidden gem. This store keeps up with the trends in an eco-friendly manner.

Valley Thrift

If you're ever headed north, pop into Valley Thrift in Escondido. The massive second-hand store feels like another world where you can make a day out of hunting for the best and most unique pieces.

Outfits and Oddities

Outfits and Oddities is a small but extremely funky option, filled with furs, leathers, and bohemian jewelry. Specially curated, the shop that doubles as the owner's home is on the pricier side, but is worth a visit.

Flashbacks

If you're new to thrifting but frequent the mall for your back-to-school needs, check out Flashbacks. A tad on the pricier side, it offers a vibrant collection of animal prints, bell-sleeve blouses, and luxury brand dresses for half the price.
