Elevating the Creative Experience at SDSU

SDSU club KolorHouse to host the first annual KolorFest in the Conrad Prebys Student Union

SDSU club KolorHouse to host the first annual KolorFest in the Conrad Prebys Student Union

KolorHouse is completing its first year as a club at San Diego State. The concept behind the club is to grow a creative family where each member can have ways to express themselves. KolorHouse’s tagline is “Cultivating creativity through clothes, community, and conversation.” The club has been hosting photoshoots, thrift socials, beach bonfires, and bi-weekly general board meetings during the 2021-2022 school year and growing in size very quickly. They have gained over 800 Instagram followers and have over 250 members. To celebrate the success of the club’s first year, KolorHouse will be hosting KolorFest in the Conrad Prebys Student Union on May 1st from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

KolorHouse President, Charlie Seith explained that he has always wanted to host a big creative showcase and continue to build a large creative family.

“I want creativity in all of its forms to be celebrated and that is what we will be doing at KolorFest,” Seith said.

KolorFest will have three fashion shows which will be collaborating with another club on campus, Fashion Fiends. The fashion shows will all have different themes and be modeled by SDSU students along with KolorHouse club members. There will be student vendors selling their art and products along with arts and craft activities for attendees. KolorFest will also have free Chipotle burritos for students who arrive in the first few hours.

“Although KolorFest is a festival, it is mainly a creative experience and celebration,” Seith explained. “I want students and people in attendance who have never heard of KolorHouse to leave feeling inspired to channel their own creativity in whatever medium they are passionate about.”

KolorFest will create a space for vendors to showcase a vast amount of mediums they use to express their creativity and will allow attendees to do so as well.

The student vendors will be showcasing and selling a variety of items including paintings, tote bags, stickers, handmade swimsuits, upcycled thrifted pieces, hand-painted denim, and more. Outside the Frame — the winner of the SDSU GreenFest battle of the bands — as well as other SDSU performers Nantai Kartier, Hadi, Tristen Zett, and GONE will all be performing during the festival. The event will also be Djed by Mike Manangan. Mike is a DJ, musical artist, and producer, as well as the Director of KolorHouse’s Music Department.

While attending KolorFest, students can sit in designated areas to watch the performers and three fashion shows. There will be a  photo booth with a customized background painted by KolorHouse members which attendees can take photos in front of. A KolorHouse yearbook recapping all the club has done in its first year will be on display for attendees to see. There will also be multiple arts and crafts activities to spread positivity set up for attendees to partake in as well.

Be sure to stop by the student union on May 1st to support KolorHouse and creatives all across campus.
