Halloweekend 2023: The Year of the Couples Costumes
Spooky season and cuffing season have forever been on the cusp of one another, and this year the overlap is stronger than ever. With plenty of pop culture icons to pull from, couples have no shortage of inspiration this holiday season.
“The town” is the only place San Diego State couples can hit this year, as the traditionally chaotic Halloweekend scene that put SDSU on the map looks a bit different this season. With the frats suspended, SAE and PhiPsi head to the desert for sand, sun, and shooters.
Barbie and Ken
Frat brothers in board shorts have never had to do less work, or wear more pink, for another occasion. With all of its versatility, from cowboy hats and fringe to neon rollerblade apparel, I am predicting Barbie and Ken will be a hot costume choice for all.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce
If the desert isn’t quite the spot you had in mind for you and your “Lover,” not to worry…there is always Arrowhead stadium! Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have been making headlines with their budding “Love Story,” and, as the star has been frequenting my home state of Missouri, I am an automatic fan. This costume, like Babrie and Ken, is cool, customizable, and most definitely a score.
Hailey and Justin Bieber
As we wrap up this year's review of iconic couples to embody, the Biebers are not to be forgotten. If you and your bae are feeling a little more mysterious or elusive, show out in skin-tight red, and bright yellow crocs. Are you going clubbing downtown? Are you strutting the streets of OB? San Diego may never know.
Finally, all you singles out there, don’t fret. Your trusty frat attire is begging to be dusted off, paired with animal ears, and released to the streets of Cal Poly or ASU. Maybe next year the stars will align for an iconic SDSU Halloweekend to be enjoyed by happy couples and frat groupies alike.
