Harry Styles Love on Tour is more than just a concert
Harry Styles is one of the most well-known singers, songwriters, and actors since going solo from his boy band career in One Direction. He has won a Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance and had two hit albums in 2017 and 2019. Not only is he extremely talented, but he definitely knows how to put an outfit together.
As he’s traveling around in his second concert tour Love on Tour, Style’s outfits have been an ongoing conversation. His outfits have always been talked about from photo shoots to the Met Gala to award shows, however; on this tour, he exceeded expectations by wowing his fans with a different outfit each night.
Styles has made a statement to the fashion world, one that has made its way to San Diego State.
“I love how he is able to ignore the stereotypes that are placed on the fashion industry regarding men,” says SDSU student Frieda Verdugo. “It shows that he is able to break those boundaries and set an example to others.” She shared how his music has inspired her to dress for her own happiness and not others.
In the first 17 shows, Styles has given his all by wearing bright colors, big feathers, silk button-ups, and glittery vests. Along with these outfits, he wears his iconic suspenders with his high-waisted pants. Styles cannot go on with his show without wearing his flashy rings on his hands, his chest exposed, and his ankle boots. Stylist Harry Lambert is one of the masterminds behind Harry's outfits Lambert keeps fans on edge by posting the outfits from the show on his Twitter account. Many students associate Harry Styles with his One Direction career and the band’s dedicated fans all over the world. He has influenced his fans no matter what race, religion, or gender.
“I would say that he has influenced me in not caring what I wear and bringing the old “aesthetic” style back,” said SDSU student Renee Rodriguez. “I know he gets criticized for wearing girl-like clothing, but honestly who cares, if you like something then wear it.”
Styles’ motto “Treat People With Kindness” is not only a song title from his 2019 FineLine album, but has progressively become his brand. After his November 2020 Vogue Cover, the talk about his femininity and originality in his style sparked a major discussion over the media. “I find myself looking at women’s clothes, thinking they’re amazing,” says Styles on the Vogue Cover. His fans admire his unique clothing and many dress up for his concerts to demonstrate their appreciation for being so open about what he wants to wear, despite the criticism.
“He shows other males it's okay to wear and embrace feminine clothing and styles,” says SDSU freshman Kayla Garcia.“Personally, I’ve been afraid to wear masculine clothing and still feel feminine.” Harry Styles has become a fashion icon to many. His fans and the media all wait for his next surprise. What’s his next move?
