Paris Fashion Week Highlight: Chanel’s Take On Deauville

Over 100 designers took the stage this past week to unleash their Fall/Winter 2024 Collections at Paris Fashion Week, setting the tone for the trends we will see emerging in women’s fashion later this year. Each brand brought innovation and drama, but one brand in particular captivated my eye with a charming collection: Chanel.

This year’s show highlighted the energy of Deauville, a seaside resort in France. The line focused on pastel and neutral tones and encapsulated the sophistication of those lucky (and wealthy) enough to vacation in Deauville. This line screams vacation for the top 1%.

Perhaps the most memorable feature of the show was the oversized, floppy hats that the majority of the models wore, adding to the luxury vacation image. A floppy hat isn’t usually what comes to mind when thinking of Gabrielle Chanel’s original designs and silhouettes, but it worked for this line. The accompanying outfits stayed true to the Chanel image of luxury and elegance, with matching tweed pantsuits, chic trench coats, and tasteful knitwear.

This show wasn’t necessarily the most revolutionary or avant garde out of all the lines presented at Paris Fashion Week; however, there was something about it that made it memorable. It captures the enigma that is the lifestyle of the wealthy as they vacation on the French coastline. The simplicity and classiness of the pieces made a statement in itself.

Although most of us may never experience a lavish vacation in one of the most high-status vacation spots–or be able to afford Chanel, for that matter–living vicariously through the models of Chanel’s upcoming fall/winter collection is the next best thing. Paris Fashion Week isn’t about being able to afford each piece, but rather about being able to envision yourself channeling the persona created by these designers.

With that being said, grab your large floppy hat and nicest suit set, and get ready to enjoy a picturesque outing in Deauville…or one of San Diego’s beaches…and live your most glamorous life.

Some of my favorite looks from the show:
